Just go with your gut Sweet Mary Kane

Despite what you may have thought, over here in Colorado, we have to pick the stems out of our bags just the same as you. What I haven't seen in a long time though is any seed come through. When you buy your cannabis from a dispensary, finding seeds in your sack would create an immediate conflict of interest. They can't have you turning around and growing your own if they want to stay in business now can they? So I'd say finding a seed around here is pretty much like finding gold.

Say you did get a seed though, what would you even do with it? Well if you were not paying much attention you'd probably smoke it. You would hear it too, that moment. You pull the Bic flame back from the bowl as if they could save the poor seed inside. Like a kid who finds an empty Easter egg, that same instant you would feel the crushing reality of empty promises. Okay so maybe that's a little bit dramatic.

Instead, you might find yourself uninterested or too busy and simply eat the seed or throw it out. Maybe you feed it to your dog, I had a dog once who love to find my stash. Perhaps as a practical joke you poke the seed into the planter box in front of the police station and hope for rain.

You may, on the other hand, find yourself drawn to bring life to this little seed. The bookshelf next your desk just might be filled up with books about cannabis from seed to sale. If the first two are true, plus you owe your life to cannabis, there's no avoiding a trip to the nursery for potting supplies. For me,  there has been something about finding the seed and making the effort without investing financially that makes this project fun. I appreciate the challenge of it, I can feel my synapses firing wildly, and I like it. So I spark a blunt, put my feet up, and start seeking solutions. Before you get too carried away, you may want to prove your seed can be germinated.

GERMINATION CONFIRMATION
You will need:
  • Ziploc baggie
  • Paper towel
  • Water

First for the paper towel so that it is fixed on both sides and will fit into the Ziploc bag. Next dampen the paper towel with tepid water (guys if you don't know what dampen the means go ahead and stop here, and start searching the Internet for the difference between moisten, dampen, and soak). There now we can move along. Place your seed inside with equal thickness on both sides and set aside in a warm area out of direct sunlight with the Ziploc unsealed for two days. Peek at your seed. Is it getting green? Does it seem to have a life? Place Ziploc in a warmer area with some direct sunlight for part of the day. Around lunchtime blaze some herb and decide to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Eat your sandwich outside, dining surrounded by all this life will remind you that you are trying to grow life yourself inside. Check on your seed, did it sprout? It did! Amazing so did mine.

Nice job Sweet Mary Kane, now what you can do with this? For now leave it in this baggie until I come up with a free idea. Eat dinner, have ice cream and brownies for dessert, realizes Solo cup is the perfect idea. (In the morning I found out I didn't have any Solo cups, I lucked out though and found a $.49 starting pot.) I wouldn't consider that if financial investment. As a matter of fact, I don't consider five dollars a financial investment, so when I saw the bag specifically labeled seeding soil cost $4.20 I took it as a sign.

Before lunch this day I was transferring my little seed with the squiggly tail into its new home. I watered the soil and let the water drain. Then I covered the planter with ‘press and seal’ and poked some holes across the top. For now,  I'll be keeping it in a warm place out of direct sun. Can't wait to see what happens next and of course I haven't named it yet. We have yet to meet. For pity sake I didn't give my son a name for two weeks after we did meet! There's no way I can choose what to call this plant without the pleasure of knowing it. I am, however, open to suggestions.

*The paper towel shown in photo one is not actually pink it was the best I could do to contrast the sprout for visibility.

A Tuesday Tantrum brought to you by SMK

I occasionally I spend so much time with people who are pro-Cannabis I forget there are people out there who don't understand. For instance today I went to see my nail tech. He's asked me before what I've done for a living, and I've answered him that as he's Vietnamese and English is the cyclic language he didn't quite understand until today. Once he figured it out his response was to tell me “you're crazy”. For the next hour, he cracked jokes about me on a pot smoker  even questioning if I had tried crack? Don't get me wrong I nail tech isn't a bully he's a funny guy. Nevertheless I could tell that the propaganda and stereotype of Cannabis that he held in his head was negative.

How is it that people can be so easily convinced that Cannabis is harmful? Was I ever convinced? I think back to my days in D. A. R. E. It was an overcrowded classroom with one teacher and one police officer to supervise nearly to 40 kids. The handouts were like a coloring book and officer stories were so mild I don't think anyone was convinced. I don't remember him mentioning harder drugs or legal drugs like alcohol and pharmaceuticals. Which together rack up death tolls around 175,000 annually in the United States. I don't remember considering it as truth for even a moment when he told me that plant Cannabis was a drug either. In fact, what I remember most about that D. A. R. E. class was the segment that covered AIDS. Maybe some of the kids had never heard of drugs before as I'm pretty sure many have never heard of AIDS. After the officer gave a brief description, he attempted to shake the hand of the boy sitting in the desk behind me. The boy would not extend his hand to the officer. As I had already had this discussion with my parents, and knew it wasn’t transmitted by a handshake, I eventually leaned back over his desk and took the officer's hand. Perhaps some people just believe the first thing they hear. Especially as children who are taught never to question anything.

After discovering tons of immensely ridiculous ads making outlandish claims that Cannabis can: kill you, be shot up, trigger you to switch teams, drain your beauty, ruining your teeth, etc. The propaganda and how it influences our society is in the forefront of my mind. To those of us who are in the Cannabis industry or on the edges of it, know people in the industry, and/or are inclined to read actual empirical evidence find these outrages blatant lies are nothing more than something for our amusement. Aren't we outnumbered though? If more people buy into the misleading campaigns against Cannabis than have the ability to recognize it as nonsense, why should we let that be a joke? Should we not stand up and call for blackout of such misinformation? It seems to me that our tolerance is every bit as liable for the gap in communication, understanding, and knowledge between anti-and pro-sides of the issue.

The problem with this type of thinking is that it stems from the belief that humans are capable of sharing a unanimous opinion. It blurs the line between ‘we’ and ‘I’. It allows right and wrong to pose as a reality inside my mind when in truth there is only ‘is’. So how can this thing that bothers me change? Since I can only lay claim to my own actions and since I am such a tiny piece of a large puzzle how can I make an impact?

I don't know. Maybe it can't be changed. It is probable there will be little to no impact from my immediate action is anyways. I'm not the kind of girl who backs down from a fight though. So what am I going to do? The same thing that I've always done, which is write letters to the people that are responsible when something upsets me, only now I'm going to do it without sharing the actual propaganda itself.

DIRTY LAUNDRY

Sometimes a girl’s just got a come clean, not that I ever had any reason to lie to you. You see the thing is you might think that I'd never had a sip of alcohol the way I'm so vocal about my disdain. The truth is if you would have seen me back in the day you've been convinced I would die from my love affair with alcohol.

That's right, this sweet little girl, used to drink and swear and run amuck with the best of them. I guess that's one of the things that make it so terrible to lose my cousin to a drunken driving accident. Don't get me wrong he wasn't hurt by someone else he was the driver who drank. That doesn't change the fact that I lost him.

In fact, this is actually the second DUI he would have been facing. It had been quite some time since his first; I suppose I just wanted to assume he was unlucky and that he knew better now. We weren't that close to begin with, me growing up in Oregon him in Colorado, but that's no excuse for my neglecting to offer my help. I can't take back the things I never said, but if I could, I would've said to him, one time in private, “Cousin, if you never want to drink again, you don't have to. Call me anytime.”
It is funny how you could interpret” taking back the things you never said” to suggest that someone twisted your words, and you can't apologize for what they thought you meant, but not me. Me, I always interpreted to mean, if you don't speak from your heart - if you don't have the courage to say the things that need to be said you will regret it. Boy, do I DUCKING regret that.

There was never a pitcher to live who had anything on the curve ball that the universe will throw you. And so I guess the message is this: Too Bad, Don’t Drink!

Thursday Pot Thoughts: Volume 8: The Skinny

I've seen a lot of "skinny pot smokers" taglines come across my feed today. I love that there are people actually complying the scientific data for these things. It has crossed my mind numerous occasions to write about Cannabis and weight loss. After all when I moved to Colorado I was 52 pounds heavier than I am today. And not only did I drop the weight of an average eight year old I've kept it off over a year. Why shouldn't I talk about it?

I think I get paranoid about writing things that I can't back up. Yea, I know I'm entitled to my opinion, but how can I really form an opinion without a multitude of information?

From my perspective Cannabis not only helped me lose weight but increased my consumption of healthy foods. I simply crave whole, raw, natural foods beyond twice as often. I was able to cease my consumption of alcohol which I would often drink for pain, and while it would not touch the pain it would incapacitate me in other ways. Triggering migraines, early bedtimes, dehydration, and so on. I'm not taking any narcotics or prescriptions at all for that matter. I stand up straighter. I am physically active. I am happy. And I'm just eating and smoking this plant!

Out my window I see a rapidly growing number of people who are experiencing the kind of relief and results that miracles are made of. I've met people who've left behind their canes after using Cannabis Balm for their Multiple Sclerosis. Consumed high doses of Cannabis and walked after being in a chair for 6 years. Come back from the edge of terminal Crohn's just eating Cannabis oil. I've seen smiles on the faces of patients. I have seen the love in the eyes of the growers and care givers. And even if the only help that Cannabis has to offer some is relief and improved quality of life, to me that's enough.

Which is where this gets tricky. Because you see I want to stand up and scream and shout and make a scene in the name of freeing my Sweet Mary Jane. Writing letters and phone calls to everyone I'm considering voting for aside, I don't have a lot to offer the cause.

I remember the first "activist action" I took. I just met this girl (like literally that day) and she wanted to go tag this nearby structure that was going up. I was brand new to the neighborhood so of COURSE I wanted to make a new friend. I was in like sin - provided we left a message. We proceeded to the nearest hardware store, stole two cans of black spray paint, and proceeded to scrawl "SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY" circling a Cannabis leaf. I loved it. I was so happy with our handy work,(the next morning we could see it from the bus stop) that I convince all the cats from my old block to take my bus and see it after. It was pretty discouraging when we pulled up along side the wall to find it already painted over. Hazard of painting in progress buildings. Lesson learned.

I smirk about it now, so young, so defiant. Still, even though it is just a plant, and I believe to the core of my bones, through the universe from this life to the next and beyond that everyone should have the same rights to Cannabis as they do to carrots, apples, peas, corn, tomatoes (and fight for your food, please Buddhas stand up against Monsanto, peacefully), and strawberries I have to hesitate. I hold back, pause, bite my tongue sometimes. Those are the moments when I realize that my interest are tipping to advocacy over activism. But then who gets to make the rules? Who gets to say why, how, what dose? As though I'm playing myself in a mental game of Spy Vs. Spy.

There isn't an easy answer and I don't want to have to choose sides. My official stance: always radiate these truths with love. My alliances lay with the beings of Earth.

Enjoy!

I'm too lazy to come up with a title.

Its hard to get started on these things when there is so much to say. Even if I sorted it into neat little categorical piles the trouble would be then which pile to start with. And how does one decide which to pile to follow with after that? I suppose it is only appropriate to begin with my apology. I didn't blog last week. I didn't give an excuse then. I'm not going to now, but the fact that you are reading this does entitle you to my sincerest apology. Believe me if you felt let down in the slightest that was the last thing I'd want. In fact, currently, I am writing this blog although I'd be better off lying flat on the floor.

When something breaks my (nearly permanent) link to the intrawebs, via my many devices, well the thing is I just don't know what to do with myself. So much of my life, including communications with instructors regarding my children. It is particularly difficult when I am incapable of completing other every day tasks I would. Long story short, between laying down and being unable to move my neck, flipping through photos became my best form of entertainment. Enjoy some of my personal highlights from 2013.

Thursday Pot Thoughts: Volume 7

As I sit here, reading through the screen shots of cell phones playing pranks on parents, this blog is nagging at the back of my head. It is Thursday again folks, and we all know what that means. Sweet Mary Kane is going to let the crazy ooze from her fingertips. Letting the crazy out is always better than letting the crazy in and you're the one who is reading this. I'm just saying.

It's not that I don't want to write my blog anymore. It's more that, with so much going on lately, it's too loud in here to sort all out and get it down with any kind of clarity. And by here I mean in my mind. Though technology ... Oh how I love thee, Oh how I hate thee ... I'm certain contributes to the rapid pace of my life. In fact, the prank I'm scrolling through now came to me just that way. I couldn't tell you who's feed or which platform it came from yet here I am reading it.

The prank I am referring to is one in which teens sent a text to their parental figures that read "Got 2 grams for 40$?!"  Followed by the text “Never mind, that wasn't for you.”. The responses are amusing. One individual evidently has his mother fooled as she buys it when he replies “Grammar Books” and she offers up more money. I wonder how I would respond. I suppose that I would wonder why they didn't just ask me.  Then again I tend to over think so perhaps I would take it as a question rather than a declaration, after all punctuation containing both an exclamation point and a question mark seems to me to swing either way.

Set the pranks aside and focus on the kids. Which sorts of things do I provide my children in terms of education of Cannabis? What information did my parents give me? What information did my parents have? Where am I going to get more information? It's a whole new landscape forming right before my eyes, and it is marvelous. I am so honored and truly highly favored to be able to bear witness to its evolution. I can't wait to see what's next. My sincerest gratitude to you all.

Denver, CO: WHACKED OUT WEED HEAD SHOOTS TWO

Any outlandish headline will do, after all. I cringe at the horrid headlines that could be used swirling around my head. There is a positive outcome yet to be discovered! I tell myself. Denver, Colorado. Civic Center Park. 4/20/2013. Shots fired.

Previously....

What a blessing of a day today. I am so ecstatic to rally with my brothers and sisters and revel in the joys we share and love we hold. Today is the day that we can all say we have worked hard, we have organized, we have spoken up, we have done a good job Bob Saget, and WE DESERVE A BREAK! We gather, and we meet and share. Stories, spliffs, our selves, our dreams and passions, more simply love.

I woke up early to a magnificent sun shining through the windows. Just in time for breakfast, which being that all I had to do was walk down the hall, and the inn keeper prepared me as much coffee and fresh fruit topped French toast as I could take, was marvelous itself.

I dressed myself comfortably and decided to bring Sweet Mary Kane herself out to play. Then off I went on my dearest arm (which, by the way, is my favorite spot to be) to the High Times Cannabis Cup. Superb time, of course, however, I just cannot pass up that 420, in the park, count down. It has long been my favorite moment, to be among so many of my brothers and sisters who share the same desire for Cannabis freedom as I. In that moment, I don't care if your opinions are strictly medical or recreational, your preferred structure of regulation, I don't care if you have a beer in your hand while you're shouting it. All I care is that you are standing with me shoulder to shoulder, and WE are standing up and crying out against this injustice together. All of us. Oh and bonus, by the way, while we're doing it lets share a doobie.

Civic Center Park 420 Rally 2013
Civic Center Park 420 Rally Denver, CO 2013

At the 420 Rally, for the most part, my closest friends cross my path. There is good music. The crowd is unbelievable. From behind the stage I scan the faces in the crowd trying to take in all in. The diversity across all platforms, sex, age, race, is incredible. I am well medicated. My gratitude and appreciation grows as I blaze. I am full, for lack of a better word to describe how overjoyed I am. I am love at loves greatest. I am.

Present time:

Back in my room I prepare to shower, nap, and get up for a night out. I am daydreaming about how wonderful my life with Mr. Kane is when the news that there has been a shooting reaches me. It feels as though I have only just left and my soul flinches.

I am heart broken. I am angry. I am outraged. I am sad. I am grateful. I am joyful. I am love. I call to all the media to react to this incident rather than over react. Do not misunderstand me. There is no intention to simply brush this incident under a rug or say that it is of no important. My sincerest wishes for the best care and a quick recovery go to the victims and witnesses. I pray that everyone minds be well taken care of, and all need are met be they psychological or physical. With that said (and having left the park just before the shots were actually fired) I also pray to see the media take their time in writing and let the investigation develop before pinning it on pot.

And to the shooter: I don't know you and I'm sorry you felt like you had to do what you did, but I am really really upset with you right now, and even though I love you and I hope you get the help you need I want you to get a long sentence. Jah knows our Cannabis POWs are getting longer than they deserve for victim-less crimes and you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Translucent

I can't be the only one with Alopecia Universalis that is also constantly pestered with pain. I didn't have the pain at first. Or maybe I did (I read that auto immune disorders also come with a good amount of pain tolerance) and just didn't notice as much before. Either way the intensity and consistency of the pain around my joints as well as the frequency and pain level of muscle spasms.

My symptoms fit that of a fibromyalgia and seem to improve with proper diet, regular exercise, and restful nights. Should I go to the doctor? Why the devil would I do a thing like that at this point in the game? I did not go to a doctor to give birth, twice, nor a hospital. I've rejected treatment/medication recommendations over and over based on the long list of side effects not worth the risk.

It gets exhausting, some days more than others, keeping up a happy appearance while my brain is pestering my with pain signals. Put those on the low priority list! Agreed. Smiling usually does the trick. Gratitude. And of course, Cannabis. Cannabis as I use it currently works to alleviate the nagging joint aches and muscle spasms throughout the day. Of course I have to stop to smoke it several times a day. Or I can commit to an edible which will last me most of the day. And then there is that pesky little bugger, tolerance. Up, up, up goes my tolerance and up, up, up goes my medicine bill. Go off for a week, work out hard, drink lots of water, you're tolerance will drop. Are you crazy!? Guess I'm going to have to build up the courage.

I really appreciate Cannabis for what it does do for me, still I find myself asking if it can do more. Can it 'fix' this problem of mine? Can it reverse, switch off, counter out autoimmunity? Could I wake up not stiff, sore, irritated, and desperate for a dose of Cannabinoids? You realize you'd have to make your own RSO? Trust no one says Rick Simpson himself. He also said, "Turn to mother nature if you want to see healing power - that's where you're going to see it." We're not talking about cancer its risky, expensive, and unpredictable. Research, I've got to do a better job of digging through what little research is already out there.

Best to focus on the fight for terminal patients right to treat themselves with Cannabis for now.
Power to the people.

Thursday's Pot Thoughts: Volume Something or other

Its lovely to hear the birds chirping away in the mornings to wake me up and the afternoons to keep me company again. The wildlife here is incredibly brave. In fact, just this morning, the slender squirrel that we call Timothy walked right up to the sliding glass door and put his paws on it while we sat not two feet away from him, egging him on and calling him as though he were a pet. There are robins too, big fat robins, with bright red chests. They pounce about the yard snatching up worms and disregarding my close proximity.

The sunlight hours have grown which is more suitable for myself (winter is not exactly my favorite time of year). I'm super ready to get our garden planted this year. I should fill the bird house while I'm at it. Its been warm enough for me to wake up to an army battalion of ants devouring the smallest little corner of a corn chip that had been missed. I love it when its warm. I hurt less when I'm warm.

I'm ready for 420 to be warm. Nine more days. Blink of an eye. How much can one girl prepare? 420 is probably my favorite. It is the day I set aside each year to really REALLY focus on practicing just being open. I like to not make plans and just go whichever way the wind blows me. And wouldn't you know it? I continually meet the most; amazing, brilliant, powerful, generous, hard working, resilient, brave, spirited, well versed, caring, people. Side note: Incomplete list due to that just being enough of a run on sentence already. NINE DAYS!

Writing about spring is making me want to clean and so be it a short blog, a blog it be non the less.

One Love,

SMK

The Center of Sweet Mary Kane

If I tried to keep it a secret it would be an obvious one, that my essential being has been at a struggle for balance. Since my ToughMudder injury my physical needs haven't been being met. At just about the same time I found myself battling an infection that I would continue to fight five plus months until I finally won. Not only was I not caring for my body properly with regular exercise I was struggling to maintain normalcy and mask the daily pain, nausea, and weakness that accompanied my infection. Whats more, I could not or would not (to avoid pain and nausea) consume adequate calories, vitamins, minerals, fat, protein well adequate anything really.

In turn my mental requirements have been overburdened with the task of balancing my emotional state on its own. Unfortunately, regardless of the fact that we can [and have] separate the brain from the body, Side note: I found the severed brain I held in 2004 surprisingly firmer than expected, the two are not independent of each other. The longer your mind is compensating the more fragile its state becomes as well. Have you ever tried to enjoy your ice cream while you had a brain freeze? That is how my experience of life became. A unwavering desire to want to enjoy it with an unfaltering presences of misery.

So the time has come, I'm almost completely done with my final round of antibiotics, praise Jah, to get this ship in order. It is time to nourish the light in me.

There is no doubt that I use my voice to speak for Cannabis frequently, socially, politically, and relentlessly. I am Cannabis. Cannabis will always be dear to my heart and I will continue to have a relationship with Cannabis it until the day that I die.

That said as I come out of what seems like a deep dream and regain my strength and stamina I find my eyes fixated on Hemp. Hemp clothes, Hemp foods, Hemp cosmeceuticals, Hemp fuels! The list goes on and on.  The history of Hemp is simply as fascinating as anything Cannabis has to offer.

So I guess what I am trying to say here is that if you notice Sweet Mary Kane seems a little MIA don't fret. Its simply time for growth, healing, and centering. I can already forewarn you however, at my return I would expect to see more Hemp talk, not that there will be any less Cannabis talk.
It doesn't mean I love you any less.

One Love ~

Leave of Absence

In New Jersey, a medical Cannabis state, patients are not being helped because big Pharma has no data to show how THC will react with their established medications. In Colorado we are serving alcohol along side Cannabis and mixing it with substances known to be linked to deaths such as Taurine. In my soul, complete freedom of Cannabis is desirable. In my heart, patients always come first. In my eyes, tears of frustration collect, seldom escaping the corners & trailing down my cheek.

If the above predicament weren't enough of a mental conflict, for me, the egos and greed have become so in front of my face I struggle to overlook them. I want to believe you are with us for the right reasons. I want to feel safe speaking with you. I want to have confidence enough in your business that I would endorse, recommend, shout it from the roof tops. Trouble is when the only thing bigger than hour mouth is your ego it makes me reevaluate my relationship with you or your product (or both!).

I want to scream. "THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING. DON'T MESS THIS UP!"

I want to disappear.

I want to be left alone.

Thursday Pot Thoughts: Volume 5

Why is it that life seems to throw everything at you at once? I had plenty of time to write my blog this week until I took on four document projects with imminent deadlines. Two power points, a slideshow/movie, and a PDF later my eye balls are rolling around in my head. Staring at this screen my eyes are playing tricks on me. Yet I feel a responsibility to get out this blog, if only I can make it before that midnight EST so its still Thursday in the US at least. While it would have been nice for everything to come at me slower, maybe a project every few days with deadlines at least two weeks out, I wouldn't change my life for the world.

I seriously just nodded off at the keyboard so I'm just going to leave you guys with 10 facts ... you'll get over it.

1. I believe that the prohibition of Cannabis is L.O.N.G. overdue to be lifted.
2. I would rather hear "Fuck YOU MOM!" from my kids than "I hate you."
3. I believe in reincarnation
4. In Shakespeare’s time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. That’s where the phrase, “goodnight, sleep tight” came from.
5. It's not that I hate gaga, I'd just rather her go away now.
6.One in three dog owners say they have talked to their pets on the phone.
7. I've lost 52 lbs since moving to Denver.
8. In Oregon they list the hair color you were born with on your drivers license. In Colorado they have a bald option.
9. The DMV employee still asked me what I wanted to list as my hair color.
10. If you put a raisin in a glass of champagne, it will keep floating to the top and sinking to the bottom.

Dear Cannabis: Will you be mine?

Valentine that is, when I say to you "be mine" I do not me that I should own you. You bring me the type of joy one can't hide behind sunglasses. Give me such wealth of love its abundance overflows from my soul. And I would have to say this is one of those open type relationships. Not open like I don't care who else you see but open like I trust you and I don't care who else you see, as long as you see me.

Cannabis, you have saved me from myself a time or two. Relieved my own pain on numerous occasions and so much more. Your potential amazes me. I look forward to discovering more about you as we grow old together. The number of ailments and people you have helped is astounding. You inspire me to be a better me.

I promise to, maintain integrity, moderately educate, investigate science, assert my voice to our elected officials, exhibit professionalism, and manifest global quality of life improvement while showing my support for you. I want to be your valentine every day.

All my love,

Sweet Mary Kane

2013 ~ Sweet Mary Kane's Year of Being Love

It's 2013, and for the first time in my life I have no expectations of the events to come throughout the year. I am relaxed yet eager. When I look back over the slide show of my 2012, I can't hold back tears of joy. What an extraordinary journey I had! Never in a million years would I have told you that I'd be doing the things that I made habits in 2012.

Prior to my experiences with Cannabis I wasted so many years, never satisfied. Which wasn't the exact problem, but rather that I didn't even know what I wanted the outcome to be. All events were equally not enough; I always needed more and was certain I would never have it. Ever. And that's the type of thinking that gets you in this messed up sort of situation in your head. A sort of standstill in which you can not satisfy yourself because you don't have a direction to go in and you can't find your direction because you're dissatisfaction has robbed you of hope.

Right about now you're asking yourself where the hell is she going with this dark depressing hogwash? Maybe this year I can break that answering all questions in a round-a-bout story telling manner, but I doubt it.

Looking back I had every reason in every moment to be grateful, and Cannabis allowed me to do that all year long. 2012 went by before I could blink. I moved in with the love of my life. I got to see Cypress Hill, twice. I golfed at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort (Mountain course). I had the pleasure of staying across the hall from the glamourous Ms Elvy Musikka whom I just love and adore. My children are excelling academically and extra circularly. I met more incredible, wonderful, enlightening people in one year than I ever have in my life. I ran 56 flights of stairs in 12 minutes and 50 seconds. I connected with my kindred sister, Zen, a saving grace in my life. We completed Tough Mudder Beaver Creek, CO in 5 hours and 40 minutes. My eyes and ears have been graced with so much incredible information, education, anecdotal evidence, passion and love my mind can’t absorb the magnitude of it all. I golfed, I golfed, and I golfed and was lucky enough to participate in The Clinics 3rd Annual Golf Tournament. I VOTED. I wrote letters and made phone calls all year long (you might laugh if you got your hands on my cell phone contact list which includes FDA, White House, Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division, and the like).  For the first time,  I went skiing, and I didn’t die! I was given the opportunity to help the school children with their ‘who’ makeup for the Grinch play. I witnessed the first ever Cannabis Business Awards. And at the end of every day I get to tuck my kids in and fall asleep next to my soul mate. These are the reasons I know that I am on the “favorite children of Earth” list. I have been so abundantly blessed, and I can’t wait to get this year’s giving back underway.

So let me get to the point already. If everything in 2012 happened just the same way, except I wasn't medicating with Cannabis I have no doubt that I would be unsatisfied without justification another year.

It feels good to have no expectations of whats to come yet know that it's going to be brilliant! It feels really good to just be love.

What Ails You Sweet Mary Kane? Part Two

The fact is simply that I am Cannabinoid deficient when I do not medicate. And if you're not using Cannabis I would argue that you are too. Evolution has not 'weeded out' the presence of Cannabinoids in mothers breastmilk. They're importance and function should not be ignored for lack of understanding.

Now let's talk about my other ailments I choose Cannabis over big pharma to treat. We'll start with PMS I have the kind of PMS that makes one go utterly mad, I'm talking like suicidal mad and the physical pain is ridiculous, as well. Since my tubal ligation my symptoms seemingly worsen with time. Rubbing on a little salve relieves cramps, of such intensity I would have been bed ridden on Percocet for two days otherwise, within minutes. When I saw a nurse practitioner seeking relief from the uncontrollable  frequent, and random suicidal thoughts that were bombarding me during my cycle I was given many samples (probably six months worth) of a drug called Geodon, from big pharma. I was told it was a mood stabilizer and sent home. I took them and drove home several times considering continuing a straight path although the road curved. Fortunately I was also a nursing student at the time, and I immediately pulled out my drug reference book to discover the truth. I had just seen the drug dealer, and she was pushing anti-psychotics on me, out of a student health care center, without a mental health professional on staff! I threw them out and got by on Percocet and bed rest for several years before discovering Cannabinoid treatment. I'm not going to lie I can still get almost split personality crazy (we even have a humorous name for her), but fortunately for me a good brownie will knock her out within 20 minutes, and I can be part of my life again without waiting it out under the covers. Works the same way with depression.

Next up Alopecia Universalis: an autoimmune disorder in which your body does not recognize hair growth as part of you and, therefore, kills the enemy. I have been totally hairless, including eyelashes/brows, ear and nose hair, etc. for just over a decade. This is a tricky one because there is not a lot of factual information out there. Being considered a cosmetic disorder only many insurance companies do not cover treatment (which unfortunately is more like experimentation). Being considered otherwise healthy in combination with our low numbers (approximately 2% of the population affected) doesn't earn us any priority on the research list either. Here, is what I do know. If you have an autoimmune disorder, you are more likely to develop a second. If you have an autoimmune disorder, your pain tolerance is extremely high. I save a ton of money on hair related expenses and can take a shower faster than anyone that I know.

As far back as I can remember I recall my complaints of pain being met with 'suck it up', 'nothing looks wrong with you', 'it's all in your head' and the like. I also remember the pain continuing to nag at my brain as I tucked it away at these remarks. Sometimes my brain doesn't recognize pain properly or sends me an improper signal, like my hip hurts, but the only thing wrong with me is a kidney infection that presented no other symptoms. If I have to go to a hospital, I am treated like a hypochondriac, drug seeker, and/or giving a "prescription bandage" and discharged swiftly.

I have no desire to attempt to regrow my hair with Cannabis. As the person experiencing this disorder and all my other symptoms, I believe that they are related to the Alopecia Universalis. And while I am not saying that Cannabis could be a cure for it, I want the right to treat my symptoms as I see fit.

I also have a whiplash injury causing a reverse cervical bend and a knee injury that I use the balm on often. I once swung to hard and strained my shoulder golfing. I could have taken four Ibuprofen and waited twenty minutes, but I opted for the Cannabis salve, and my  oldest son watched the clock waiting for me to notify him that it had worked. Three minutes. We continued to play. I put more salve on at bed time and the next day my shoulder felt just brilliant.

'Spirituality and Cannabis' is an entire blog of its own.

There are other things we could talk about. For instance when I treat my symptoms with Cannabis and am no longer pestered by incessant pain signals I am able to soak up information like a sponge. My 4.0 GPA during my college years can be credited to "Wisdom Weed". I can be creative. I can spend quality time with my children. We could go on and on, but I think I have gone on long enough for now. It's your turn.

What Ails You Sweet Mary Kane? Part One

Recently I was asked what kind of medical problems I have on my Facebook page. This truly isn't a easy answer type of question. It's not yes or no, and it's certainly not a straightforward answer. I suppose I could give you the quick "my recommendation is written for" answer. Migraines, as they fall under chronic and debilitating medical condition. I was thirteen years old the first time I had a migraine. It was not a fun experience in the slightest. It came on in a snap, and while my entire dome felt as though my brain would swell to the point it would fracture my skull I had to run from my desk down the hall and into a stall to vomit. Fortunately for me there were two girls at the wash sink when I burst in. They got help while I convulsed helplessly vomiting and began to sob in pain. I was pretty much useless, and people around me got me to a doctor somehow. There was a lot of testing done before I was given the diagnosis of migraine headaches.

I began experiencing migraines frequently, sometimes multiple times a week. Each time I was incapacitated with light and motion sensitivity, as well as blinding pain encapsulating my head. Having a knack for experiencing any possible negative side effects of medication I had developed the notion that it was better for me to seek natural remedies than consume pharmaceuticals. As I aged and researched via the great wide web, I complied a list of triggers to my migraines. Avoiding these triggers significantly lessens the regularity of migraine headaches for me with the only side effect being a shift in life style.

This is an incomplete list of triggers for me: alcohol; prolonged hunger; lack of sleep; strong fragrances/chemicals; withholding caffeine; untreated anxiety attacks; and dehydration.

Regardless of knowing some (and hopefully most in reality) of my triggers I continued to experience migraine headaches. In college, I experimented with a couple new prescription samples given to me by the student health center. One was ineffective and the other actually made it worse! In fact, I was forewarned the migraine would worsen  for about fifteen minutes and then it would go away. Unfortunately, for me, it just got worse. The only solution, to this day, once I have a full blown migraine is to sleep it off. Bummer is getting to sleep isn't as easy as you would hope. The good news is the proper strain of Cannabis will help with that.

If I feel a regular headache has potential to go full blown, I take one or two Excedrin Migraine pills in an attempt to head it off. This seems effective so either it's a fantastic fit for me, or that regular headache was just that.

I first began using Cannabis with a Doctor's recommendation in March of 2011. Since then I have been admitted to the emergency room one time for a migraine that was out of control. With that said that particular migraine came on while I was trying to get some much needed sleep during my oldest sons emergency surgery for a badly ruptured appendix. It was a tremendously stressful time, and I was ignoring multiple risk factors in my anxious grief and worry. I also was not properly medicated due to spending almost all my hours in the hospital with him.

For the most part, I eat Cannabis. However, I also have a balm that I rub onto my skin and will smoke for nausea or instant relief.

Now that was the short answer. Whew! Since I am me, however, I'm not going to stop there. Side note: Blood testing for a set level and slapping someone with a DUI is utterly heinous. Check out the chemistry. Someone who never "got high" but used a Cannabis balm all over their legs each night to treat MS symptoms would fail this blood test. We shouldn't let patients be labeled criminals because the science is overlooked by the lawmakers.

Now that I have that off my chest let us get to the long answer. Depending on the area of the country you're in recommendations are allowed for a set list of conditions. My migraines have diminished significantly and having access to all the various methods of medicating and researching relentlessly I've discovered so many more exciting things that Cannabis helps me with. Unfortunately, the long answer would be way too long if I went into such depth on everything. Thus, here is a list of other ailments I treat with Cannabis, to be discussed in part two.

PMS, depression, arthritic pain thought to be caused my auto immune disorder Alopecia Universalis, Adult onset ADD, nausea, muscle spasms/aches, a whip lash injury, and spiritual connectivity. I'm likely forgetting something, but don't worry. I'll be back, wink.
